Imagine a person who has spent 34 years of life serving a college, teaching students, walking the same corridors, looking at generations pass. How emotional would it be for her to step out!
Professor Jasbir Kaur got selected in Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala on 6 September 1991 when she was just 26 years old. She was the College’s Vice Principal, Head of Geography department, Dean Social Science and Dean student girl. She has always served the College with a lot of dedication. The Geography Department made great progress during her time. Social science department gave her individual retirement party. College’s union gave her party. College’s academy Council also gave her retirement party. Union President Dr Sumeet kumar appreciated her and said, “Jasbir Ma’am is a great inspiration. She showed that a person can perform job without getting into politics. In her 34 years of service she never involved herself in any politics and did her best as a professor. She is someone we should take inspiration from.” Dr Varun Jain, HOD Mathematics department, secretary of Union said, “Ma’am is really fond of gold.” Ajay Gupta said, “Jasbir ma’am got selected during my time on 6 September 1991. On the day of her interview, she was very sick..that’s why she reached late and she looked very nervous because of it. She requested to be interviewed and explained that she was late because she is sick. But when it was the time for selection. She got selected as a number one candidate.” Parminder ma’am said, “she faced many ups and downs during her career. But she never let it affect her teaching and career.” Dr Neeraj Goel said, “ This time is of happiness as well as sadness. You can look at it from a batsman’s perspective who plays a brilliant innings but gets out after scoring a double century. Now, this moment is of happiness as well as he scored so well but sadness as well that such a wonderful batsman lost after finishing his innings and is going. Retirement is such kind of feeling.” Overall, she was a diamond for the staff and students. The teachers, students, etc would always miss her. People like her don’t just work in college but they build it.
