The hunger strike of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal at the Datasinghwala-Khanauri farmers’ protest site entered its 104th day today, demanding the implementation of the promises and written assurances given by the Central Government. Farmer leaders stated that protests at the borders of Khanauri, Shambhu, and Ratanpura have been ongoing for over a year in support of farmers’ and laborers’ rightful demands.
A meeting of both Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha was held at the Shambhu protest site. The leaders expressed gratitude to the women who marked their strong presence at the protest sites on International Women’s Day (March 8) and made the Mahila Mahapanchayat (Women’s Grand Assembly) a success. They acknowledged that the stage proceedings throughout the day were conducted entirely by women speakers, who extensively discussed key demands, including the MSP Guarantee Law, implementation of Dr. Swaminathan Commission’s C2+50% formula for crop prices, and complete debt waiver for farmers and laborers.
Both farmer organizations expressed satisfaction with the success of the Mahila Mahapanchayat and stated that the overwhelming participation of women has sent a strong message to the government. The leaders affirmed that every individual, including children, is now ready to fight for their rights. They emphasized that Dallewal’s ideology is gaining momentum nationwide, and the massive turnout of women in the protest has demonstrated their commitment to the movement.
