Students Must Become Aware Voters for a Strong Democracy – Dr. Preeti Yadav

– Deputy Commissioner Honors Winners of Inter-College and School Debate Competitions

Patiala, February 4:

Dr. Preeti Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Patiala, honored the winners of the inter-college and inter-school debate competitions organized by the Department of Political Science at Government Mahindra College, in collaboration with SVEEP Patiala. She presented certificates to the victorious students as a token of appreciation.

Dr. Yadav emphasized that elections are a crucial pillar of democracy, and every student should not only be a responsible citizen but also a well-informed voter. She highlighted the importance of voting and the responsible use of voting rights, stating that such debate competitions play a vital role in spreading awareness.

She further mentioned that during elections, voter apathy has been a growing concern. These debate competitions provided students with an opportunity to discuss the causes of this indifference and ways to address it. She commended the enthusiastic participation of students in these debates.

The Deputy Commissioner awarded certificates to the winners, including Ali Hasan Naqvi and Dorius from Government Mahindra College, who secured the first position in the college category, followed by Pratham Kumar and Avpreet Kaur from Government State College of Education in second place. In the school category, Shobha Sharma and Dolly Sharma from Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Model Town, claimed the first position, while Prince and Seema from Government Victoria Girls Senior Secondary School secured second place.

On this occasion, Assistant Commissioner (G) Richa Goel, Prof. S.S. Rekhi, Mohit Kaushal, and Election Tehsildar Vijay Kumar were also present.
