• Complete Ban on China, Nylon, and Synthetic Kite Strings; Strict Legal Action Against Violators – E.O. Rakesh Kumar

• Appeal to the Public: Avoid Using Banned China Kite Strings

Devigarh, January 31:

Today, the Nagar Panchayat Devigarh team conducted a surprise checking in the markets of Devigarh to seize banned China, nylon, and synthetic kite strings, resulting in the confiscation of 87 rolls of prohibited strings. Enforcement Officer Rakesh Arora stated that under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav, the markets were inspected today, and shopkeepers, as well as the general public, were made aware of the ban on these harmful kite strings.

The Enforcement Officer revealed that a raid on J.M. Traders on Patiala-Pehowa Road led to the seizure of 36 reels of banned China string, while 39 spools were confiscated from Amandeep Traders and 12 from Lekhraj General Store. The entire confiscated stock was handed over to the police for further action. He further mentioned that the District Magistrate has imposed a strict ban under Section 163 of the BNS Act.

Rakesh Arora appealed to the public to refrain from using these hazardous strings, as they have been causing severe accidents and leading to the deaths of innocent birds and animals. To prevent such incidents, the Punjab Pollution Control Board has issued guidelines enforcing a complete ban on China, nylon, and synthetic kite strings.

The Enforcement Officer further stated that the manufacture, sale, storage, purchase, supply, import, and use of kite strings made of nylon, plastic, or synthetic materials, including ‘China Dor/Manjha,’ are completely prohibited. The ban also extends to any other synthetic string coated with non-biodegradable substances. The public is urged to comply with this ban and report any instances of illegal sales.

He clarified that kite flying is only permitted with strings made from cotton thread that does not contain glass, sharp materials, or adhesive substances for reinforcement. Violation of these rules will attract strict legal action under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, or rules framed under this Act. As per Section 15 of the same Act, violators can face imprisonment for up to 5 years and/or a fine of up to ₹15 lakh.
