Patiala, January 30:

Under the innovative initiative “Doctor Aapke Dwar”, launched by the Punjab Red Cross Society, Patiala district has received a fully equipped Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) van as a pilot project. Today, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav handed over the keys of this state-of-the-art van to District Red Cross Secretary Dr. Pritpal Singh.

Dr. Preeti Yadav stated that these mobile vans will also be linked to government schools to facilitate anemia testing among girl students as part of the Anemia Mukt campaign. She further emphasized that this initiative will be highly beneficial for marginalized communities, especially pregnant women who suffer from various deficiencies during pregnancy and are unable to visit healthcare centers.

The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that the van will conduct medical screenings in villages, and the collected data will help in providing tertiary, primary, and secondary healthcare services closer to people’s homes, ensuring that free medical services reach the needy at their doorsteps.

Notably, Punjab Governor and President of the Punjab Red Cross Society, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, recently flagged off fully equipped MMUs from Punjab Raj Bhavan. These units, staffed with doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and drivers, are designed to provide essential healthcare services.

In the first phase, Patiala is among the three other districts that have been allocated MMUs, ensuring that free medical care reaches those in need at their doorsteps.
