At Dattasinghwala-Khanauri Kisan Morcha, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s hunger strike entered its 61st day, reflecting the resilience and determination of the ongoing farmers’ protest. The farmer leaders announced preparations for the January 26 program, stating that from 12 PM to 1:30 PM, farmers across the country will take their tractors onto the roads.
They alleged that the administration, at some places, is trying to suppress the planned program, which they termed as a violation of democratic values. The leaders criticized successive governments over the past 77 years for failing to work in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution, which emphasizes governance “for the people, by the people.”
They claimed that instead of focusing on farmers’ welfare, governments have consistently prioritized corporate interests, implemented policies favoring big business houses, and ignored the plight of farmers and laborers.
The leaders called for immediate action to end the neglect of farmers, demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) to prevent farmer suicides. The January 26 tractor march is planned to raise awareness and garner support for the farmers’ movement across the nation.
