Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s Hunger Strike Enters 56th Day; Nationwide Farmer Protests Announced for January 26

The hunger strike by Sardar Jagjit Singh Dallewal, demanding the implementation of promises and assurances made by the government, has entered its 56th day at the Khanauri farmer protest site. Farmer leaders announced that on Monday, January 26, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, farmers across the country will stage tractor protests outside corporate establishments, BJP leaders’ residences, and other key locations to highlight their demands.

As per the announcement, the protests will focus on five key areas:

1. Silos (grain storage facilities)

2. Corporate-owned malls

3. Toll plazas

4. BJP offices and residences of ministers, MLAs, MPs, and district heads

5. In cases where these locations are not nearby, protests will be held on state and national highways.

The protests aim to emphasize demands including a legal guarantee for MSP (Minimum Support Price), implementation of Swaminathan Commission’s C2+50 formula for crop pricing, complete debt waiver for farmers and laborers, and addressing issues under schemes like MGNREGA. Additionally, demands include action against those responsible for the death of Shubhkaran Singh during police action in Haryana in February 2024, justice for injured farmers, and compensation for those who faced state violence.

Farmer leaders highlighted that these protests and the ongoing hunger strike by Sardar Jagjit Singh Dallewal since November 26, 2024, are part of their broader movement that began on February 13, 2024, at the Khanauri, Shambu, and Ratanpura borders. While Dallewal continues his fast, receiving only medical assistance for the past 56 days, efforts are underway to prepare a temporary shelter to shield him from the sun as his health deteriorates.

The joint forums, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, issued a warning to the government against harassing or intimidating artists supporting the movement. They stressed that such actions would not be tolerated, and any attempts to target these individuals may force the forums to take decisive actions.

This protest symbolizes the farmers’ unwavering commitment to their demands and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of neglecting their grievances.
