Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s Hunger Strike Continues on 55th Day at Daatasinghwala-Khannauri Farmers’ Protest

Today marked the 55th day of the farmers’ protest at Daatasinghwala-Khannauri, where farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s indefinite hunger strike continues. Last night, after receiving an invitation for talks from the central government, farmers across the country repeatedly urged Jagjit Singh Dallewal to accept medical assistance so that he could personally attend the meeting with the central government and present the farmers’ demands strongly.

Jagjit Singh Dallewal made it clear that he would continue his hunger strike until the MSP Guarantee Law is enacted. After repeated requests by farmers for medical assistance, he stated, “Do what you think is right.” Around 1 AM last night, a panel of eight senior and expert doctors arrived at the protest site and began providing him with medical aid.

Farmer leaders clarified that Jagjit Singh Dallewal will not break his hunger strike or consume food until their demands are met.

The leaders further stated that on February 23, 2024, during the protest in support of Farmers’ Movement 2 at Kheri Chopta in Hisar, Haryana, the Haryana Police carried out a brutal crackdown on thousands of farmers. Several farmers were injured, and false cases were registered against many. At the time, the administration had promised to withdraw the cases as part of a local agreement, but notices are being sent to farmers again over the past three to four days.

Farmer leaders emphasized that resolving cases related to the movement is the responsibility of both fronts and that this issue will be discussed during the meeting with the central government.

Additionally, they announced that a decision on the previously declared programs would be made soon after holding a joint meeting of both protest fronts.
