Computer Faculty Writes Blood Letter to CM Bhagwant Mann, Demands Justice

Sangrur, January 15: In a dramatic and emotional protest, members of the Punjab Computer Faculty wrote a letter in their own blood to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, highlighting their long-standing demands for better working conditions and job security.

The protest, led by the Computer Teachers Hunger Strike Struggle Committee Punjab, comes as part of an ongoing movement that includes hunger strikes and demonstrations to press the government to address their grievances. The faculty members say they were compelled to take this extreme step after months of unfulfilled promises from the state government.

Key Demands of the Computer Faculty

The computer teachers, who have been working in government schools for over two decades, are seeking:

1. Merger into the Education Department to secure permanent positions and equal status with other educators.

2. Implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission to ensure fair wages and benefits.

3. Restoration of Dearness Allowance (DA) and other previously promised allowances.

4. Recognition of their contributions and an end to their contractual employment status.

Protesters Call for Immediate Action

In their letter to CM Mann, the teachers expressed their frustration over the lack of action despite multiple meetings with government officials. They accused the administration of neglecting their plight and breaking election promises.

“The government has failed to fulfill the commitments it made during the election campaign. We are not asking for favors but for justice and recognition for our hard work,” said a spokesperson from the committee.

Hunger Strike and Escalating Protests

The letter-writing protest is part of an ongoing hunger strike that began on September 1, 2024, outside the Sangrur Deputy Commissioner’s office. Teachers like Jony Singla and Ranjit Singh have intensified the movement by resorting to indefinite hunger strikes.

Despite growing public and union support, the government has yet to offer a concrete resolution. The faculty members have vowed to continue their struggle until their demands are met.

Public Reaction and Solidarity

The blood-written letter has drawn widespread attention and sparked debates on the treatment of contractual employees in Punjab. Leaders from various teacher unions and political groups have expressed solidarity with the protesting faculty, urging the government to act swiftly to resolve the crisis.

The teachers have warned that if their demands continue to be ignored, they will further escalate their protests, holding the government accountable for any consequences.
