1158 Assistant Professors and Librarians Protest at Director of Higher Education Office in Mohali

The Punjab and Haryana High Court’s double bench granted approval on September 23, 2024, for the recruitment process of 1158 positions. However, the government has yet to appoint 411 assistant professors and librarians, leaving the recruitment process in limbo for nearly four months. Despite hunger strikes and arrests, the Higher Education Department has only recently completed document verification for the remaining candidates, which took place over ten days ago. Yet, no further progress has been made in issuing appointments.

The Higher Education Department has consistently adopted a policy of delay. In every meeting, assurances of appointments by Friday are given, but no concrete action follows. This has left Punjab’s highly educated youth in a state of uncertainty, as political games are being played with their futures.

If the government does not take decisive steps to complete the recruitment process for these 1158 positions, the protest will intensify further.
