Chandigarh, January 7, 2025
On January 7, 2025, an important meeting of the Computer Teachers Union Punjab was held under the leadership of State President S. Gurwinder Singh Tarn Taran at the Punjab Secretariat, Chandigarh. The meeting was attended by Punjab Finance Minister S. Harpal Singh Cheema, the Chief Secretary, Finance Secretary, Education Secretary, and other senior officials from various departments.
The agenda of the meeting included the continuation of discussions from the panel meeting held on December 9, 2024. The union presented key demands, including the implementation of the agreed-upon DA (Dearness Allowance) for computer teachers, provision of rightful benefits to families of nearly 100 deceased colleagues, enforcement of Punjab Civil Services Rules, and the merging of computer teachers into the education department under the Sixth Pay Commission.
The sub-committee listened to the union’s demands with seriousness. Finance Minister S. Harpal Singh Cheema instructed the officials to consult the Advocate General of Punjab regarding the implementation of Punjab Civil Services Rules, aiming to find a concrete solution to the matter. While the minister confirmed agreement on the DA implementation, he stated that an official announcement could not be made due to certain constraints. However, he assured the union that the DA would be implemented shortly.
The union delegation, which included General Secretary S. Harpreet Singh, Senior Vice President Madam Rakhri Mannan, Vice President Anil Aeri, Senior Member Gurdeep Singh Bains, Navtej Singh Gill (Mohali), Jagpal Singh Bains (Ropar), Harvinder Singh (Mohali), and Kulveer Singh (Ropar), was reassured that their other demands would also be addressed in due course.
This meeting marked a significant step toward resolving the longstanding issues faced by computer teachers in Punjab, with commitments made for swift action on key concerns.
