Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Addressed Regarding Health Concerns of Hunger Striking Teacher

Sangrur, Punjab: The Computer Teachers’ Union has submitted a formal appeal to the Deputy Commissioner of Sangrur regarding the deteriorating health condition of Jony Singla, a computer teacher who has been on a hunger strike for the past 10 days.

According to the union’s statement, Mr. Singla is protesting to demand justice for his rightful claims. Over the last few days, his health has significantly declined, with reports of severe chest and abdominal pain, as well as instances of unconsciousness. The union has urged the administration to ensure regular medical examinations for Mr. Singla, citing the critical nature of his health condition.

The Computer Faculty in Punjab has been advocating for their long-standing demands, primarily the merging of computer teachers into the Education Department. Currently employed under a separate system or contractual terms, the teachers are calling for equal status, pay, and benefits as other regular educators in the state. This demand stems from dissatisfaction with past administrative changes that failed to address job insecurity, low pay scales, and lack of benefits.

To assess the situation, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sangrur visited the protest site to check the status of the hunger strike and the health condition of Mr. Singla. Their visit highlights the gravity of the situation and the growing concern for the teacher’s wellbeing.

The hunger strike is the latest effort by the teachers to draw attention to these unresolved issues. The appeal submitted to the Deputy Commissioner emphasizes the urgency of resolving the teachers’ demands and safeguarding the health of the protestor.
